yogi and friends Commodore 64 game

"Yogi Bear & Friends in the Greed Monster," sometimes subtitled "A Treasure Hunt," is a dynamic adventure video game featuring the character Yogi Bear. It was published in 1990 for home computers including Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST, Commodore 64, and ZX Spectrum by Hi-Tec Software.

Hi-Tec also published other games involving Yogi Bear during the same period: "Yogi's Great Escape" (released earlier in 1990) and "Yogi's Big Clean Up" (1992). Around the same time, they also released "Top Cat," a game quite similar to Greed Monster in terms of gameplay mechanics.

Plot: The plot is loosely inspired by the episode "The Greed Monster" (1988) from the animated series "Yogi's Treasure Hunt." Yogi Bear's treasure hunting team sets out to investigate a worldwide theft of toys, but all the members except Yogi (Boo-Boo, Snagglepuss, Yogi's Gang, and others) have been imprisoned by the "greedy monster." Yogi must free them all, collect coins, and eventually locate the monster in order to transform it back into the harmless Nathan, using the money to transform someone else in its place.

Instructions

Gameplay Mechanics: Players control Yogi Bear within a two-dimensional, multi-screen maze with an isometric view. Yogi can move in all directions and transition between screens by exiting from any of the four sides. The entire setting consists of a village with dirt roads and a large building surrounded by a moat, both adorned with lollipop-shaped decorations. Inside locked rooms of the building, Yogi's friends and the greedy monster can be found. The player must explore the maze, find objects, solve some small puzzles, free the friends, and ultimately reach the monster.

Each screen features enemies in the form of animated objects or strange creatures. They usually move according to fixed and repetitive patterns, but there are also some that chase Yogi, limited to the current screen. When Yogi is touched by enemies, he loses some of his health, which can be restored by collecting picnic baskets. Yogi can shoot candies at enemies with limited ammunition, with different effects depending on the target.

Various objects are scattered throughout the scenario: 20 coins, which are one of the completion objectives; toys that only increase the score; keys that open respective doors but can be carried one at a time; and several types of power-ups. In the Amiga and Atari ST versions, four special items are available for specific situations, activated by pressing a key to solve certain problems.
