War Play is a video game published in 1986 by Anco for the Commodore 64. It involves an attack on a military base using three different types of ground and air vehicles; the defenders of the base can be controlled by the computer or another player.
Gameplay Both the attacker (always a human player) and the defender (second player or computer) have a certain number of tanks, fighter planes, and bombers at their disposal, and they control one at a time until it is destroyed, choosing the type of vehicle each time.
The battlefield is shown with an isometric view, freely scrolling in all directions, always from the attacker's point of view. The position of the defender's vehicle, which can be located outside the visible screen, is indicated in a mini-map of the entire area.
All vehicles can rotate in eight directions; tanks can move forward, backward, or stay still, while planes constantly advance but can change altitude. Tanks and bombers hit ground targets, fighters shoot forward but can also hit ground targets if they descend very close to the ground. Other temporary units come into play automatically from both sides, controlled by the computer: guided missiles, helicopters dropping bombs, and troops with rocket launchers.
The objective of the game for the attacker is to destroy certain installations, while the defender must destroy all their vehicles before they succeed.
