Wacky Races is a racing video game developed by Appaloosa Interactive for PC and PlayStation, and by Velez & Dubail for the Game Boy Color. It was published by Infogrames in 2000. An enhanced version of the game, called Wacky Races: Starring Dastardly and Muttley, was released for Dreamcast and PlayStation 2 in the same year.
Gameplay: The game features eight ready-to-play vehicles and an additional three boss vehicles that must be unlocked. The regular vehicles include the Buzz Wagon, the Boulder-Mobile, the Arkansas Chugga-Bug, the Compact Pussycat, the Bullet Proof Bomb, the Turbo Terrific, the Creepy Coupe, and the Army Surplus Special. Each vehicle has unique characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses, resulting in diverse driving styles. Players can use abilities and weapons such as bubble gum, exploding pumpkins, and land mines to hinder opponents and gain an advantage. Accumulating Wacky Tokens scattered around the tracks allows players to use their vehicle's specific abilities, which are divided into defense, speed, and attack categories.
The game offers four modes: Time Trial, Championship, Multiplayer, and Super Gadgets. Championship mode unlocks the Mean Machine, driven by Dick Dastardly and Muttley, with superior gadgets upon completion.
Wacky Races utilizes the story and characters from the American series of the same name created by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. The game features circuits inspired by the cartoon characters, with players racing against each other across them.
