In Tomb Raider: Curse of the Sword, an evil magician named Madame Paveau rises to power in the underworld of New Orleans using dark magic and sacrifices. She is ultimately destroyed by a mob and her body shattered. However, one of her apprentices survives and captures her soul. In a dark museum, Lara Croft witnesses the theft of a powerful sword. When Lara is cut by the sword, her blood is needed for a ritual to resurrect Madame Paveau. Lara sets out to stop the cult from completing the ritual, eventually tracking them down to The Bahamas and successfully preventing Paveau's resurrection.
Development and Release:
Developed by Core Design and published by Activision, Curse of the Sword was created as a sequel to the first Tomb Raider game for Game Boy Color. The game was announced at E3 in May 2001 and released in North America on June 25 and in Europe on August 17 of the same year.
