Spyro - Attack of the Rhynocs (USA) Gameboy Advance game

Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs, also known as Spyro Adventure in Europe, is a 2003 platform game developed by Digital Eclipse and published by Universal Interactive for the Game Boy Advance. It marked the end of an era for Spyro games under the Universal Interactive label and Digital Eclipse's involvement in the series. The gameplay expanded on role-playing elements and item collecting, with a greater focus on role-playing than platforming.

In the game's plot, Spyro, Sparx, and the Professor accidentally tear open a hole in the fabric of time and space, leading to an invasion of Rhynocs into the Dragon Realms under Ripto's command. Spyro must assist the Professor in sealing the hole before Ripto gains complete control. The story unfolds as Spyro embarks on a journey across various worlds to gather magical objects called Hearts.

Development of the game saw initial plans for collecting 100 different objects, but this was revised to focus on themed quests due to feedback and technical constraints. Despite mixed reviews upon release, the game received praise for its graphics and quests while drawing criticism for its collect-a-thon mechanics and similarities to previous Game Boy Advance entries.

Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs offered players familiar mechanics from previous games, such as collecting gems and navigating portals between levels. It introduced new playable characters like Sgt. James Byrd and Agent 9 in side missions, adding variety to the gameplay. However, some aspects were criticized for feeling repetitive, and the controls were deemed inconsistent in maneuvering Spyro.

Overall, while Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs received mixed reviews, it marked an important chapter in the Spyro series, blending platforming with role-playing elements and expanding the lore of the Dragon Realms.
