Mobile Golf (モバイルゴルフ) is a Game Boy Color game released exclusively in Japan on May 11, 2001, developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo. It marked the final release for the system in Japan before the Game Boy Advance took over. The game bears a striking resemblance to the Mario Golf series in terms of gameplay and storyline.
Similar to Mario Golf, Mobile Golf offers players a selection of four human characters at the outset, whom they can train and improve through gameplay, gaining experience and enhancing their stats. Additionally, players have the opportunity to unlock characters, including the game's four champions: Bean, Rozary, Powert, and Bird, by defeating them in matches. Human characters from the Mario Golf series can also be unlocked for use in story mode.
A distinctive feature of Mobile Golf is its compatibility with the Mobile Adapter GB, an accessory exclusive to Japan. This adapter enabled players to connect their Game Boy Color to the internet via a cellular device, allowing for online multiplayer matches and access to unlockable content such as characters and courses. Notable unlockable characters include Mario, Peach, Yoshi, and Foreman Spike, while unlockable courses encompass Atlantic, Pacific, Snow Land, and Halloween Night. Moreover, players could obtain additional Golf Clubs through this device.
Regrettably, the service facilitated by the Mobile Adapter GB was terminated by Nintendo of Japan on December 14, 2002, rendering all associated content inaccessible in-game through legitimate means. Despite this, Mobile Golf remains a noteworthy entry in the realm of handheld golf gaming, showcasing Camelot's expertise and Nintendo's innovation in merging traditional gameplay with online connectivity during the Game Boy Color era.
